Jennifer Homendy
Chair, National Transportation Safety Board
Jennifer Lynn Homendy was born in November 1971 in New Britain, Connecticut. She received her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Transportation Safety Administration from Clemson University.
She worked for a period as a government relations manager at the American Iron and Steel Institute, before becoming a legislative representative for the AFL-CIO Transportation Trades Department. She served on the staff of the U.S. House Transportation Subcommittee and later became a member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in 2018.
When her term expired, she was nominated by President Donald Trump to a seat on the NTSB. She was confirmed by the Senate in 2019. President Joe Biden nominated Homendy to chair the Board, and she was confirmed by the Senate, assuming that position in August 2021. President Biden renominated Homendy to the agency for a second five-year term, with a three-year term as chair. She was again confirmed to the post by the Senate in May 2024.
She is married to Michael, and they have one daughter.

The National Transportation Safety Board issued its final report on the fatal collision of the U.S. Army helicopter and the American Airlines commercial flight over Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, D.C., a year ago. The agency found that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had approved dangerous flight routes and that air traffic control relied too heavily on pilots’ ability to see each other’s aircraft in the space.
The NTSB report also reflected the repeated failure of the FAA to respond to concerns from air traffic control over DCA’s traffic and requests to reduce flights to manage congestion.
“It’s one failure after another,” NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said. “This was 100 percent preventable.”
